The challenge

Cloud computing and digitalization play a vital role in improving business operations efficiency and the ability to quickly adapt to market changes.

The following key benefits of the Cloud drive the business case for migration in most cases:

  • scalability, high availability and global service availability
  • agility and automation capability
  • enhanced security and compliance standards
  • pay as you go model, cost savings
  • continuous improvement, innovation and rapid prototyping

Cloud migration projects are always planned along business and technical requirements and measurable expected benefits.

Migration Business case development

As a preparation of Cloud migration projects, a business case for the migration is required by business stakeholders in most cases. This discovery work covers the following aspects of the organization and the application to be migrated:

  • What is the current total cost of ownership (TCO) of the application, including direct and indirect costs?
  • What functional and non-functional requirements does this application have for the migration?
  • Migration Portfolio assessment to determine the calculated TCO of the application in AWS, and based on the current TCO, a Return on investment (ROI) analysis breakdown for the next 3 or 5 years. The TCO calculation can span across IT hardware and certain software assets, including software license costs in the ROI report.
  • Migration Readiness Assessment to determine, what are the strengths and weaknesses in customer organization for adopting Cloud technologies and operating them.

As part of TC2 Migration Business case development based on AWS Migration Acceleration Program Frameworks and tooling, we will deliver you a material, which will help you in the decision making process overseeing required effort, anticipated benefits and the overall migration journey steps as a tangible outcome for business leaders.

Migration and modernization with license optimization (OLA)

Moving and hosting enterprise software in AWS can bring a number of benefits to the table:

  • Passing security, compliance and regulation requirements
  • Satisfying high availability or business continuity requirements for mission critical systems
  • Optimizing license costs utilizing AWS on demand pricing model and AWS Marketplace subscriptions
  • Modernizing by switching to fully managed platform as a service AWS components and eliminating the need for enterprise licensing, where feasible

TC2 is experienced and prepared for a number of attractive migration scenarios:

  • SAP ERP on AWS: many choose to have the resilience of the Cloud, while still keeping flexibility to control architecture, data assets and integrations by choosing to deploy SAP ERP to AWS with TC2.
  • Oracle database migration to AWS: whether optimizing for licensed cores, replatforming to a managed AWS relational database service, or moving data to AWS data warehouse technologies, we will be your trusted partner to plan and deliver your migration.
  • VMware platform migration to AWS: besides moving virtual machine workloads to AWS, it is crucial to plan network, security and automation capabilities to match these features in the AWS platform.
  • Other off the shelf products and custom developed applications are also encouraged to assess for a migrate and modernize project for benefits

As part of the migration project engagement, we test out cutover plans and rollback plan steps in the provided maintenance window, to leave out surprises when it comes to Live migration.

Application modernization

Applications can benefit from AWS the most, when they are tailored to use the most out of the platform features. One of the key features of public Cloud is on demand pricing of the resources. To use this as an advantage, our application needs to adapt to customer demand in minutes, by using automatic scaling features of the platform. By achieving autoscaling for our application, we can forget overprovisioning our services and have an optimal price-performance setup for our infrastructure while improving its availability.

TC2 performs Application Modernization Assessment workshop with the customer application team to discover modernization opportunities which helps benefit more of the AWS platform. Based on the assessment workshop, we provide a list of recommended items to replatform, refactor or rewrite, with estimated effort to carry out modernization steps and measurable benefits of each change.

Transitioning into container environments or serverless technologies can save you up to 90% on infrastructure and operational costs, compared to traditional hosting models.

TC2 team maintains a strong cooperation in modernization projects with customer application development, testing, operations and security teams, closing the knowledge gaps for AWS with our expertise, to make sure the modernization efforts of the application will succeed and deliver the expected outcomes.

Disaster recovery site and archives migration

One of the most appealing use cases of public Cloud from financial perspective is archiving and building disaster recovery (DR) sites. The key benefit here is again the on demand pricing model of Public Cloud. In AWS, storage services are generally cheap, and compute resources has to be paid only if they are up and running. Depending on your requirements on how fast you want to retrieve your data or systems, and what timeframe you need to have guaranteed delivery of your data, you can decide from a number of options in AWS for your DR architecture.

Recovery Time and Recovery Point objectives (RTO and RPO) are two key measures when designing DR solutions, meaning how much data loss and availability loss you are willing to take in case of a disaster event. The smaller values you provide for RTO and RPO, the more cost uplift effect it will have on the AWS platform costs.

Let’s take a look at our options at AWS, how we can provide disaster recovery depending on the expected RTO and RPO target values.

TC2 performs Resilient Application Readiness Assessment for the selected scope of infrastructure, applications and data to determine to best fit DR architecture options, in cooperation with customer architects, product owners and security teams. Integrations between sites, incorporating existing tooling and defining operating model in case of a disaster are all part of the engagement. TC2 team helps you to provide a viable, innovative yet cost effective DR alternative for your existing applications.

Machine Learning Solutions

Today's data-driven expectations place an increasing demand for the application of an integrated automatic decision model based on machine learning in the case of modern software. During its complex learning, Machine Learning (ML) can confidently absolve complex decision-making processes in hundredths of a second, which consumes extra time for human control and often presents the operators with an opaque, complex consideration situation, and cannot serve even a sudden increase in demand in this way.

Financial Services

The financial sector is one of the slowest-changing, most conservative industries with a century-old history. The need for high levels of security and to adapt to market processes is made more difficult by the significant investments required to digitally transform, modernize infrastructure, embrace agile methodologies and embed a culture of innovation. All these complicate and slow down the transformation and modernisation needs of the sector and can have a significant impact on operational efficiency, customer experience and overall competitiveness.
