Euronics Hungary Transitions SAP Workloads to AWS
The full migration of Euronics Hungary’s SAP systems was completed in just nine months.
THE CHALLENGE
“I see great potential in utilizing AWS’s data warehouse and AI capabilities for our SAP systems. We’re eager to launch new initiatives, and my team has already begun exploring additional systems to move to AWS,” says Balázs Kiss, Chief Information Officer at Euronics Hungary.
Euronics Hungary, a leading electronics retailer with an online store and over 60 brick-and-mortar locations, sought to enhance the performance of its SAP systems to better meet customer expectations. To achieve this, the company transitioned its essential SAP workloads to Amazon Web Services (AWS), gaining improved infrastructure reliability, scalability, and security in the process.
Beyond performance concerns, the organization also needed a future-ready IT foundation that could support innovation without disrupting daily operations. Moving SAP to AWS allowed Euronics Hungary to modernize its environment while maintaining business continuity and predictable costs during the transition.
THE SOLUTION
Partnering with TC2 to Run SAP Systems on AWS
Euronics Hungary relies on SAP—an enterprise resource planning solution—to oversee its logistics and supply chain operations, including managing its expansive 300,000-square-foot warehouse. These workloads were originally hosted on local servers, that occasionally experienced unexpected downtime, negatively impacting order fulfillment and revenue—especially during peak periods.
To address these challenges and boost service dependability, the company decided to migrate its SAP systems to AWS. “AWS provides us with a flexible, secure infrastructure that requires minimal maintenance,” says CIO Balázs Kiss. To enhance its cloud capabilities, Euronics Hungary partnered with TC2 Ltd. (TC2), an AWS Advanced Solution Provider.
This strategic decision marked an important step in the broader journey of SAP to AWS, enabling the company to reduce operational risk while improving system responsiveness. By adopting SAP on AWS, Euronics Hungary gained access to enterprise-grade resiliency and globally proven best practices specifically tailored to SAP environments.
Speeding Up the Migration with AWS Services
Working together, Euronics Hungary and TC2 executed a “lift-and-shift” migration to the cloud. The project began with a proof-of-concept phase to identify the most suitable AWS services. The company selected AWS-certified Amazon EC2 instance types for SAP workloads, such as m6a.xlarge and r6i.24xlarge. “With TC2’s support, we could scale resources up or down rapidly during testing, ensuring optimal system sizing and on-demand disk performance,” Kiss explains.
This approach aligned well with AWS for SAP best practices, ensuring compatibility, performance stability, and licensing compliance from the outset. It also reduced the complexity often associated with cloud migration projects by minimizing application refactoring during early phases.
“Lift and Shift” Migration
The “lift and shift” migration strategy enabled Euronics Hungary to move systems quickly while preserving existing SAP configurations. This lift and shift cloud migration approach significantly shortened implementation timelines and lowered transformation risk, making it ideal for a business that could not afford prolonged downtime.
In the following phases, the company successfully moved its test and development environments to AWS. To fulfill stringent security standards, Euronics Hungary implemented AWS Security Hub to automate checks and consolidate security alerts.
Additionally, Amazon GuardDuty was introduced to provide intelligent threat detection across accounts, systems, and data. The company also uses AWS Backup for centralized, automated data protection, with backup schedules ranging from continuous for high-priority databases to weekly for less critical systems. For monitoring, Amazon CloudWatch was adopted to track and observe both AWS and on-premises resources.
SAP to AWS as a Scalable Foundation
Through SAP to AWS adoption, Euronics Hungary established a scalable platform capable of supporting seasonal demand spikes and long-term growth. The migration also simplified resource provisioning and strengthened governance across environments, reinforcing AWS for SAP as a strategic backbone for enterprise operations.
High Availability Infrastructure
A key outcome of the project was the implementation of a high availability infrastructure designed to eliminate single points of failure. This infrastructure ensures continuous access to critical SAP systems, even during maintenance or unexpected events, supporting uninterrupted retail operations.
Fueling Future Innovation Through the Cloud
The full migration of Euronics Hungary’s SAP systems was completed in just nine months. Since the transition, the company has reported significant improvements in system reliability, security, and scalability—ensuring uninterrupted business operations. “We’ve experienced zero downtime and no decline in performance,” says Kiss.
With the core lift and shift cloud migration complete, Euronics Hungary can now focus on optimization, automation, and value creation. Leveraging cloud managed services allows internal teams to shift attention from infrastructure maintenance to innovation, while cloud migration initiatives continue to unlock new analytics and AI-driven opportunities.
Ongoing support from TC2, available 24/7, helps Euronics Hungary continue modernizing its IT landscape, expanding team skills, and optimizing cloud spending. “I’m excited to tap into AWS’s AI and data warehouse features with SAP,” adds Kiss. “We’re already exploring other systems to move to the cloud.”
